Key Terms:

Productions - The process of making a media text.

Distribution - The process of advertising the media text to an audience including marketing and promoting the media text by physically distributing it.


Exchange - The process of an audience 'consuming' a media text, e.g. listening to a radio show, watching the television, and it includes the way in which audiences 'read' a text and the ways in which audiences use that for their own purposes.

Media Conglomerates - a company that owns a large number of smaller companies called 'subsidiaries'. 

Cross Media Conglomerates - a company that has more than one medium sized companies and other types of media companies.

Cross Media Conglomerates:

Disney owns films, TV programs, books, magazines, games and music.
News Corporation owns newspapers, magazines and news channels.
Time Warner own films and TV programs.
CBS owns radio stations, TV programs and news channels.

An independent company is a company that isn't owned by a conglomerate.
